MCP and Skills

Use vsdk mcp and vsdk skills to set up your AI coding assistant for VideoSDK. vsdk mcp connects the assistant to the VideoSDK documentation through the MCP server, and vsdk skills installs the VideoSDK Agent Skill that teaches it how to build with the SDKs.

You do not need to sign in to VideoSDK to use either command.

Connect the MCP server

Run vsdk mcp to see the setup for every supported assistant. This prints the configuration and changes nothing:

vsdk mcp

To see the setup for one assistant, name it with --client:

Apply the setup

Add --install to let the CLI apply the setup for you. It requires --client.

vsdk mcp --client cursor --install

For Claude Code, the CLI runs the claude mcp add command. For every other assistant, it writes the videosdk server entry into the assistant's configuration file.

When the CLI writes a configuration file:

• Your other servers and settings in the file are kept, including comments.
• An existing videosdk entry is replaced as a whole.
• Running the command again is safe. The CLI reports that the server is already there and leaves the file unchanged.

Restart your assistant after the setup is applied.

Set up for one project

By default, the setup applies to your user across every project. Add --project to set it up for the current project only:

vsdk mcp --client cursor --project --install

--project works with claude-code, cursor, vscode, and antigravity. The other assistants keep a single configuration for your user, so the CLI returns an error if you pass --project with them.

MCP options

Option	Short	Description
--client <name>	-c	The assistant to set up. See Supported assistants.
--install	—	Apply the setup instead of printing it. Requires --client.
--project	-p	Set up the current project only, for the assistants that support it.

Install the Agent Skill

Run vsdk skills to install the VideoSDK Agent Skill. The CLI asks which assistants to install it into:

vsdk skills

To skip the questions, name the assistants with --agent and confirm with --yes:

vsdk skills --agent claude-code --yes

Separate several assistants with commas, for example --agent claude-code,cursor.

Restart your assistant after the installation.

vsdk skills downloads and runs the skills installer from npm, which fetches the skill from the videosdk-live/skills repository. It requires network access.

List the available skills

Use --list to see the skills in the repository without installing anything:

vsdk skills --list

Skills options

Option	Short	Description
--agent <names>	-a	Assistants to install into, separated by commas, or * for all. Asked when omitted.
--global	-g	Install for your user instead of the current project.
--skill <name>	—	Install one skill from the repository, or * for all. Installs all when omitted.
--list	-l	Show the skills in the repository without installing.

Use in scripts

Both commands accept --json, which returns a single JSON object on stdout.

vsdk mcp --client cursor --install --json
vsdk skills --list --json

Without a terminal, vsdk skills cannot ask which assistants to install into. Pass both --agent and --yes, otherwise the command exits with code 1:

vsdk skills --agent claude-code --yes --json
