Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Audio & Video Conferencing pricing, billing, and usage calculations.

Audio-Video Calling

What is a "participant-minute"?
  • There are two terms: meeting minutes (duration of the meeting) and participant minutes (aggregate duration of all participants).
  • Formula: Meeting Duration x Number of Participants = Participant Minutes.
  • Example: 5 participants in a 30-minute meeting = 150 participant minutes.
How is pricing calculated? Can you provide an example?

Let's say 5 people join a meeting for 30 minutes:

  • Meeting duration: 30 minutes
  • Participant minutes: 30 meeting minutes × 5 participants = 150 participant minutes
  • Video rate: $0.004 per participant-minute
  • Total cost: 150 participant mins × $0.004 = $0.60
What is included in the $20 free credit?
  • Every new account gets $20 in free credit on signup — no credit card required.
  • This credit can be applied to any usage, including all video resolutions, audio-only calls, and add-on services like recording, transcription, and storage.
  • You are only billed once your $20 credit is exhausted.
Is Audio charged separately?
  • No, audio cost is included in the video pricing.
  • However, if a participant has their camera OFF, it is treated as an "Audio-only" participant and charged at the lower rate of $0.001/min.
How is video billed, and what does "resolution-based" mean?
  • Video is billed at $0.004 per participant-minute, based on the aggregate resolution a user receives — the sum of resolutions of all video streams they are watching.
  • Participants with their camera off are treated as audio-only and billed at the lower rate of $0.001/min.
How can I reduce costs for large meetings?
  • Turn off video for participants who don't need it — they are billed at the audio-only rate of $0.001/min instead of the $0.004/min video rate.
  • You can also reduce the resolution of individual video tiles (e.g., to 320x180) to lower the aggregate resolution each user receives.
Are live-messaging and signaling charged?
  • No. Features like PubSub (live messaging, signaling, interactions) are currently free.

Invoice & Billing

Free vs. Paid Accounts
  • Free Account: Default upon signup. Includes $20 in free credit.
  • Paid Account: Activated when you add a credit card. You are only charged if you exceed the free limits or use add-on services.
When are invoices generated?
  • Invoices are generated on the 2nd or 3rd of each month.
  • Auto-charge is attempted within 24 hours.
  • If payment fails, services may be suspended after the due date (9th/10th).
Does my $20 free credit expire?
  • No. The $20 free credit is added to your account on signup and does not expire. It is drawn down as you use paid services, with no minimums.
Taxes and Indian GST
  • International: No taxes applied unless local laws require it.
  • India:
    • Invoices are in INR.
    • 18% GST is applicable.
